Junior League Information for 2013

The Myers Park Trinity 13-14-year-old baseball program provides two levels of competition, aiming to let as many boys play baseball as possible. Tryouts are required for both levels of play. Boys who are selected for Challenge play are not required to play in the regular-season program, but regular season play is required for boys wanting the traditional end-of-year all-star experience. See below for more information:

13U Challenge
This program is intended for boys interested in making the commitment to compete at a high level of play in the greater Charlotte area. Boys will be playing in tournament formats on select weekends throughout the spring and summer vs. other 13U squads.
Tryout date: Saturday, March 9
Game schedule: Tournament format (2 games on Saturday, 2 games Sunday) from late March through early July, playing on select weekends.
Projected total games: 16
Practice dates: Tuesdays/Wednesdays/Thursdays, and non-game weekends
Projected fee: TBD (Not more than $500)
Note: Games and practices will be scheduled around school-ball and regular-season schedules. The tournament games will not lessen the players’ and teams’ ability to complete those school and regular-season commitments. The practice schedule similarly will be lighter while school seasons are ongoing.
Head coach: Mark Mensheha

Regular season
The Myers Park 13-14 teams have a record of success unmatched among local programs in recent years. Playing in the area Babe Ruth league the past five years, our teams have been regular season and/or postseason tournament champions the last three seasons. Other league teams include Steele Creek, Matthews, Park Sharon and Dilworth. In addition, the end-of-season Myers Park all-star team has advanced to the state championship final in three of the past five years, capped by last year’s team, which won the state tournament and advanced to the U.S. Southeast Regional Tournament in Virginia.
Tryout date: Saturday, April 13
Game schedule: Projected 15 games between early May and end of June, with games played on weeknights and weekends. Final schedule will be set in the spring.
Practice dates: Will be determined after teams are formed and game schedules set.
All-star season: Boys must play a regular-season schedule to be eligible for selection to the Myers Park all-star team. That team is selected at the end of the regular season and will then practice and play through the end of July (later if advancing beyond state tournament play).
Projected fee: TBD (estimated $225)
Coaches: Head coach for each team will be determined based on team composition and number of teams in play. Recent years have seen 2 or 3 teams, with each team featuring a combination of 13-year-olds and 14-year-olds.
