Myers Park Junior League Season

Myers Park Trinity's Junior League season for 13 and 14-year-olds is fast approaching. The league is excited to announce that Providence Day Varsity Baseball Head Coach Jim Cerbie will serve as the team's manager.

Junior League tryouts will be held on Sunday, April 19, from 1:00-3:00 pm at Independence Park. Players interested in signing up should contact the league at juniorbaseball@mptll.org. Games will begin in mid-May.

MP Academy

Myers Park Trinity is proud to announce the launch of MP Academy, which will serve as an umbrella program for a combination of player and coaches clinics, private lesson opportunities, strength and conditioning programs, and the overall instructional foundation for our baseball and softball players.  The League is partnering with area high school and middle school coaches to provide additional instruction and coaching being offered by the Academy.  

As part of this launch, we are announcing tryout dates for our inaugural 13U and 14U teams.  Parents of players that have an interest in playing for one of these teams should contact the appropriate coach listed below for specific details:

14U – Players aged 14 as of April 30, 2015
Head Coach:  Josh Thomas - Middle School Head Coach at Charlotte Country Day School.
Tryouts will be held this weekend - August 9-10 – email joshthomas@me.com for additional details.
Location: Independence Park (Elizabeth Traditional School)

13U – Players age 13 as of April 30, 2015
Head Coach:  David Houseton - Varsity Head Coach at Covenant Day School.
Assistant Coach:  Mark Mensheha - Head Coach at AG Middle School.

In addition to the two tournament focused teams listed above, MP Academy also hopes to field a combined 13/14 Babe Ruth team.  Our coaches listed above will be able to provide all the details about each of these teams so please reach out and we hope to see you at the fields.

Junior League Baseball Registration

Junior League registration is now open for 13- and 14-year-old baseball players (age as of April 30th of this year). Teams play at Independence Park on 90 ft. base paths. Tryouts are held in mid-April.  The season operates during May and June. If you are interested in learning more about our Junior League program or would like to register, please contact Mark Mensheha for more information.

Last Day to Register for Junior League Baseball

Friday, April 5th, is the last day to sign up for MPTLL's 13-14-year-old Junior League baseball program. This age group plays on a full size field (60' mound and 90' bases) at Independence Park, located across the street from Memorial Stadium. "Inde" is a great venue to watch and play a baseball game. Junior League Information for 2013

The Myers Park Trinity 13-14-year-old baseball program provides two levels of competition, aiming to let as many boys play baseball as possible. Tryouts are required for both levels of play. Boys who are selected for Challenge play are not required to play in the regular-season program, but regular season play is required for boys wanting the traditional end-of-year all-star experience. Independence Park Work Day: Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013

From our Junior League Coordinator, Mark Mensheha....

MPTLL is seeking volunteers - both players and families - for some preseason field work at its home field for 13s and 14s, Independence Park, this coming Saturday, January 26, between 9am and 5pm. We’re proud to have a great facility like Independence Park as our 13/14 home, but the facility is in need of a little clean-up work before the 2013 season can begin.

We’ll hopefully have more volunteers than we have available equipment at the field, so if you can bring with you any of the following, the equipment will likely come in handy:

Work gloves
Rakes
Shovels
Gas-powered leaf blowers
Leaf bags
Circle hoe (to help pull weeds around the backstop area)
Cable ties (to close off openings in the fenceline)

In addition to the general facility clean-up work that the above tools will make possible, we’re hoping for some assistance with some “heavy-lifting” work. This includes work on our mound and catchers circle, as well as edging work around the infield.

We also have a potential painting project that will be available to us. If you’d be interested in that work, specifically, please let us know of that interest through the contact information below.

If you can offer a couple hours of your time on Saturday, it’d be greatly appreciated.

Independence Park Work Day - January 26, 2013

MPTLL is seeking volunteers - both players and families - for some preseason field work at its Junior League diamond at Independence Park on January 26. The MP 13's and 14's have a jewel of a home field at Independence Park. But our home is in need of a little clean-up work before the 2013 season can begin.

Best of MPTLL #2: Dedicated Coaches

The eight Major League managers at Myers Park Trinity Little League have over 150 years of cumulative experience coaching their teams. The Minor League division has a few dedicated coaches of its own who return each year. The same can be said for our 13 and over MP Academy teams and some of the other areas of our league. You would be hard pressed to find many leagues in the world that can make those statements.

Myers Park Trinity is fortunate to have many parents that are willing to coach a team or help the league in some other capacity. Volunteer organizations depend on these types of valuable participants.

But being a parent with a child on the team is not a requirement for coaching at MPTLL. In our Majors division, it is the exception to the rule. Some of our longest serving coaches' children aged out of the program many years ago. Others do not yet have kids old enough to play. And some have kids who aged onto their teams after more than a decade of coaching. Volunteering to coach at Myers Park Trinity is a choice we make based on our dedication to our teams, the league and the game. We are caretakers of our teams and we strive to perpetuate the positive effects that youth baseball has had on our players for generations.

We do not coach our teams in order to create an ideal situation for our own children. We are here to stay, so we think long-term regarding what's best for our teams and the league - not just what makes our own kids have an enjoyable experience. "Daddy-ball," as it is often called, is a problem in many areas of youth sports. That is why many people have advocated for non-parent coaches. By having dedicated, full-time coaches in these divisions of play, Myers Park Trinity takes "daddy-ball" out of the equation for most of its players aged 10 and up during the regular season and all-stars. That is extremely rare these days, and it is one aspect of our league that sets us apart from so many. It is one of the fundamental reasons that MPTLL is a great league.
